The largest of the four mountains with 3,362 acres. Great for families and all ability levels. Snowmass Village has its own restaurants and shops — make a full day of it.
Aspen Highlands

Expert favorite — home to the legendary Highland Bowl, a 2,000-ft hike-to bowl with jaw-dropping views of the Maroon Bells. Also has great groomed runs and a more local vibe.

A classic Aspen hike that climbs above town quickly for sweeping views of the valley. Rocky and steep in sections. Short but rewarding.
Maroon Bells via Scenic Trail
Maroon Lake Rd
The most photographed mountain scene in Colorado. The trail around Maroon Lake and up toward Crater Lake is accessible for most fitness levels. Summer requires a timed entry permit + shuttle from Aspen Highlands.
Cathedral Lake
Castle Creek Rd
One of the most rewarding hikes in the area. A relentless climb through aspen groves and alpine meadows to a stunning cirque lake below Cathedral Peak. Worth every step.
American Lake Trail
W. Buttermilk Rd
A demanding trail that gains 2,700 ft to a high alpine lake surrounded by 13,000-ft peaks. One of the hidden gems — less crowded than Maroon Bells but equally stunning.
Rio Grande Trail

A flat, paved multi-use trail that follows the Roaring Fork River for 42 miles toward Glenwood Springs. Perfect for biking, jogging, or a casual walk with kids and strollers.

Aspen Mountain Gondola

Ride the Silver Queen Gondola to the summit of Aspen Mountain even if you're not skiing. 360-degree views of the Elk Mountains, Snowmass, and the valley below. The Sundeck restaurant at the top is open year-round.
Independence Pass

A stunning high-alpine drive over the Continental Divide on CO-82. Pull-outs at the summit offer incredible views and short walks to alpine lakes. The drive itself through the Roaring Fork Valley is unforgettable.
Aspen Art Museum

A Shigeru Ban–designed building housing rotating contemporary art exhibitions. Free admission. The architecture alone is worth a visit — woven exterior facade and a stunning rooftop terrace.
Wheeler Opera House

Built in 1889 by silver mining magnate Jerome Wheeler, this beautifully restored Victorian opera house is an Aspen landmark. Hosts world-class performances and tours of the historic building.
Smuggler Mountain

A historic silver mining area turned trail network. The road to the top offers sweeping views of Aspen and the valley. Mountain bikers love the technical trails; hikers enjoy the easier road to the summit overlook.

The world's largest natural hot springs pool, fed by the Yampah spring at 124°F and cooled to a comfortable soaking temperature. Two pools, a waterslide, and a full spa. Perfect for sore ski muscles. Open year-round.
Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park

A mountaintop theme park accessible by aerial gondola with historic cave tours, thrill rides, and a giant swing over Glenwood Canyon. Surprisingly fun for all ages. The cave tours alone are worth the trip.
Crystal Mill

One of the most photographed historic sites in Colorado — a 19th-century wooden mill perched on a rock above the Crystal River. Accessible by high-clearance 4WD via the Crystal River Road from Marble. Stunning in fall foliage.
Carbondale & Willits

A laid-back artsy town at the foot of Mt. Sopris. Great local restaurants (Phat Thai, Choice Market), the Colorado Rocky Mountain School campus, and the Thunder River Theatre Company. Less expensive dining than Aspen.
Woody Creek Tavern

A legendary dive bar and restaurant made famous by Hunter S. Thompson, who was a regular. Mexican food, strong margaritas, and an iconic Aspen vibe. Cash and card accepted.
Ashcroft Ghost Town

A remarkably well-preserved 1880s silver mining ghost town tucked into a stunning alpine valley at 9,500 ft. Free to explore with self-guided tours of the original buildings. The drive up Castle Creek Road is beautiful on its own.
